Laptop Batteries Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

Staff Writer, May 21, 2009

Hewlett-Packard Company is recalling almost 70,000 batteries, which can be used for notebook computers because it received negative reports from its consumers. Two incidents of the batteries overheating and catching fire were reported. Some minor property damages occurred, but no injuries. HP has agreed to send free replacements to all of the consumers who purchased them between August 2007 and March 2008.

The batteries are lithium-ion and were used in HP and Compaq notebooks. For a complete list of the models that will be affected by the recall, consumers can check out the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Web site.

This group works to make sure that all of the products and services on the market can be used safely and effectively by consumers. It is funded by the government as an effort to prevent manufacturers from deliberately creating or selling faulty products. The Web site can always be checked for up-to-date product recalls and information.
