After an internal test revealed that their organic brown eggs were positive for traces of Salmonella, the owners of den Dulk Poultry Farms, based in Ripton, California, have announced a recall. The stores where the eggs were sent include Costco, Safeway and Pack ‘n’ Save. At Costco, the product was packaged as “Kirkland Organic Brown Eggs” in an 18-count carton. The following expiration dates are considered to be potentially contaminated: April 1 and April 8. The eggs at Safeway and Pack ‘n’ Save are packaged as “O Organic Grade A Large Brown Eggs,” are in 12-count cartons and have an expiration date of April 1. Though no cases of illness have yet been reported, the manufacturers are urging consumers who bought the eggs to return them to the stores where they were purchased for a full refund. The eggs were distributed throughout Northern California, but as far south as Fresno, California and even into western Nevada. The following plant codes identify those eggs, which may be contaminated: 062 35 P1776 and 069 35 P 1776.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently performing an investigation on the farm, which has been cooperative with its efforts. The owners of the farm have also said that consumers are welcome to call with any possible questions. Their phone number is (209) 559-4269.
