Consumer Affairs Complaint

Within each state, there exists a department of consumer affairs or consumer protection, usually in connection with the state attorney general's office. For concerns related to consumer law, the consumer affairs office is the source for government assistance, including the filing of a complaint, known as a consumer affairs complaint. To file a complaint, consumers should first contact their state attorney general's office to determine in which office's whose jurisdiction they reside. From that office's website or by telephone, the consumer should be able to file their complaint in the necessary detail. When the complaint is received, the consumer affairs office will conduct an investigation, after which an attempt to solve the issue will be launched. If mediation, arbitration, and other enforcement actions are not successful, the Department of Consumer Affairs may then refer the consumer to other possible resolutions or offer guidance on filing with their state district court. The Department of Consumer Affairs is also responsible for business licensing, product recalls, and consumer education.
