As in the cases of other such consumer issues, consumers who have experienced credit fraud, deception, or other unlawful practices are advised to file a complaint, called a consumer credit complaint. Generally, consumer credit complaints are processed in a similar manner to other complaints. First, of course, there should have been an evidenced violation of the law. Common violations concerning credit include nondisclosure of hidden fees, inaccurate or fraudulent reporting, or identity theft involving a person's credit. When these or other such violations occur, consumers can immediately file a complaint with the FTC or state & local consumer agencies. After a complaint has been filed, the office with which it was filed will investigate before proceeding with resolution, which could consist of a lawsuit or other actions.
