Consumer Protection Against

Laws in the United States offer consumer protection against a range of unlawful business practices, including fraud, deception, and identity theft. These laws are not fitted into one single act or bill, but rather are recognized in the laws pertaining to different types of commerce, providing consumers with elaborate protections in each area. In buying, laws of this type require that merchants and manufacturers are responsible for the products they sell. As the selling party, they become liable, in a legal sense, to their consumers. In other areas of business, such as lending, credit, or renting, laws of this type also in exist - the Truth in Lending Act, Magnuson Warranty Act, and the Fair Housing Act, to name a few. Still, consumers are still likely to come in contact with businesses and individuals that violate these laws. When this happens, consumers can proceed with the laws one step further by accessing more of the help that the government has provided, either through a local consumer protection office or the Federal Trade Commission.
