Consumer Protection Groups

Although consumer protection groups have no legal power, they are still a reputable authority on consumer law. For consumers, getting in contact with consumer groups may reveal better alternatives to a lawsuit. Firstly, many consumer groups receive complaints from consumers. By submitting a complaint, consumers make these groups aware of companies that may also be violating laws to other consumers. After investigating a complaint, consumer groups also may be able to mediate problems between the two parties. Since these groups are aware and may have the legal personnel to file a lawsuit, some companies may be willing to settle out of court rather than create a more serous issue. In the event that mediation between the two parties is unsuccessful, it may still be possible for the consumer to be connected with other possible resolutions for solving their case, such as procedures for small claims or even class action lawsuit, if more than one consumer has been affected.
