Consumer Protection Legal

From a legal standpoint, acts towards consumers that are taken unfairly or deceptively are violations of consumer law. Consumer law, both at the federal and state levels, prohibit such actions within the laws of various forms of business - car sales, credit and lending, and identity theft, for example, are governed by such laws. Through these consumer laws, consumers are granted with certain rights which, if not fulfilled, place them in the line of various legal repercussions. Primarily, consumer laws identifies with basic consumer rights to safety, information, service, education, to be heard, and to choose. As an added legal protection, the government has made it possible for consumers to contact the FTC or state consumer agencies for help, if and when their legal rights are violated. By filing a complaint, the FTC or the state department of consumer protection will investigate, afterwards mediation may occur or the case may be sent to district court.
