Consumer Protection Organization

A consumer protection organization is a company that helps to enforce consumer law, either under the direction of the government or as a private entity. These organizations are functional in a number of ways - enforcing laws, filing lawsuits, receiving complaints, informing consumers, and other efforts are made to promote a safe and fair market for US consumers. At a government level, the Federal Trade Commission serves as the forefront consumer organization, regulating and enforcing federal law in regards to consumers. According to the Federal Trade Commission Act, the FTC also enforces and regulates many of its own rules, such as Truth In Advertising Laws which require advertisements to be true. Also operating under the government, state attorney general's offices include consumer protection departments, who also have authority in regards to state and federal consumer laws. Private consumer organizations such as the Better Business Bureau also offer assistance by advocating for consumers and sometimes even pursuing lawsuits on their behalf.
