Consumer Protection Safety

Consumers of all statuses can attest to the need for safety when purchasing products on the market. Whether buying a basic necessity or the latest addition to luxury products, safety is of the utmost importance in the trade environment. Products lacking in the area of safety have the potential to cause injury, and in some cases, even the threat of death. Fortunately, the law recognizes the seriousness of this issue and enforces safety laws throughout the marketplace. As set out in the Consumer Bill of Rights, one of the consumer rights that is expressed in US consumer law is the right to safety. In fact, one branch of the United States government, since 1972, was created with the sole purpose of protecting consumer safety interests. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) governs the safety that consumers are provided according to the law, enforcing such laws by setting specific standards and ensuring that vendors actually abide by those standards. This includes required testing of products and making product recalls known to the public, all to make sure that consumers are as safe as possible.
