Consumer Rights Association

The California Consumer Rights Association (CalConsumer), among other similar consumer protection agencies, is a non-profit organization that promotes consumer law by promoting, advocating, and educating in regards to the rights of consumers. Although organizations such as CalConsumer lack government authority, there efforts are still effective in protecting consumers. By advocating for the rights of consumers, consumer groups allow for improvements to be made to consumer law. In terms of education, consumer groups are again of considerable assistance, ensuring that consumers are not only informed, but that they understand the law as well. Other similar consumer groups include the Better Business Bureau, Consumers International, and Consumer's Union. Some consumer groups also receive and process complaints against companies to assist consumers who have been victim to unlawful practices. In some cases, these organizations even become involved in the legal process themselves, providing volunteer attorneys to offer advice and sometimes represent consumers.
