Recall of Beco Butterfly Infant Carriers, Due to Fall Hazard
HARTFORD, April 24 – Product Safety Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are visiting retail establishments this week, completing recall effectiveness checks in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s April 22nd voluntary recall of Beco Baby Butterfly Carriers, manufactured in the USA and the Dominican Republic for Beco Baby Carrier Inc., of Newport Beach, California. The Infant Carrier was sold in specialty retail stores nationwide and on various internet sites from January through February 2008. The cost of this item was approximately $140.00.
The styles included in this recall are as follows: Pony Express, Mia, Carnival, Addison, Ethan, Sophia, Cameron, Joshua and Ava. The recalled carriers have a black label with a green “b” on the left side and a butterfly located on the right side. The label is sewn on the outside of the infant carrier.
Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., urged consumers who own this product to cease using it immediately. The buckles on the shoulder straps of this carrier can suddenly release tension, allowing the strap to slip through, posing a fall hazard for the infant. For additional inquiries or for instructions on returning the carrier for repair, please contact Beco Baby Carrier Inc.
