Zicam Side Effects Lawsuit: Danger Includes Loss of Smell

Zicam, a popular nasal cold gel, has been found to cause anosmia, or loss of smell. As of June 16th, the FDA has advised consumers to stop using Zicam, due to concerns that one of the ingredients can cause a potentially permanent loss of smell. Anyone affected by this lawsuit should consult an attorney immediately in order to file a claim for compensation.

Dangerous Zicam Products

  • Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Gel
  • Zicam Cold Remedy Nasal Swabs
  • Zicam Cold Remedy Swabs, Kids Size (a discontinued product)

Use of any of the above products, or any other Zicam product, should be ceased immediately to prevent damage to the sense of smell caused by the zinc in the cold medicine.

Zicam Information for Consumers

Makers of Zicam, Matrixx Initiatives, were able to get around FDA approval by marketing their product as "homeopathic", meaning doses are so small as to have very little or no effect. Unfortunately for many consumers, the dose was large enough to cause a potentially permanent loss of smell. The FDA has now stepped in and warned the Zicam maker that they cannot market this product without their approval.

A lawsuit has been filed claiming the drug manufacturer acted negligently, and should be held liable for damages caused by their product. Anyone who has shown symptoms of anosmia (loss of smell) after taking any Zicam product can get a Free Consultation to find out if they may be eligible for financial compensation for the injury.

Warning from the FDA

The FDA issued a letter to Matrixx Initiatives, the manufacturer of Zicam products, warning them that this product cannot be marketed without FDA approval. Since Zicam was marketed as a "homeopathic" remedy, FDA approval was not required to sell it to the public.
