Honda Recalls

Toyota’s not the only Japanese car company dealing with safety-related automotive recalls. Honda has somewhat quietly recalled over three-quarter of a million cars since late 2008. In a parallel with the Toyota recall, Honda’s recall has been expanded in stages as more vehicles have been affected.

Recalls with Honda's

The recall is primarily of 2001 and 2002 Hondas. Accords, Civics, and some Acura TLs and Odysseys have all been affected. The recall is for a problem with the driver’s side airbag. In a case illustrating that more is not always better, the airbag can inflate with too much pressure, rupturing the metal inflator mechanism and spraying metallic shrapnel. There have been at least a dozen incidents; most resulted in injuries, though there has also been at least one fatality.

Injury Due to a Recall on a Honda Vehicle

If you own a Honda and you receive a recall notice, do not throw it out with the junk mail. Take it seriously, and bring your car in for the repair as soon as possible. If you have any concerns that your Honda may be affected, you don’t need to wait for a notice—you should contact your dealership or the company to inquire. Ideally, you will be able to get the problem fixed and drive on without concern.

However, if you are unlucky enough to be injured before defective auto parts can be replaced, you can at least seek compensation. Manufacturers are liable for injuries caused by their products. While Honda is to be commended for taking action to redress this problem, as the manufacturer, they are legally responsible for any injuries or fatalities caused by their defective auto parts.

Filing a Claim and Lawyer Assistance

If you have been injured owing a defective part in your automobile, you should contact experienced product liability lawyers, who can make sure that you receive the help, support, and compensation that you are entitled to under the law. Product liability law is powerful, but complex; it takes an expert to apply it properly. Just as you wouldn’t treat yourself for injuries resulting from an exploding airbag, you shouldn’t try to represent yourself against a major corporation employing experienced counsel of its own.
